What sparked your interest in finance?

My passion for numbers and the accounting profession motivated me to join finance. I observed a lack of accountants in my work environment and saw an opportunity to make a difference. I wanted to promote values and ethics in the industry.

Can you share some career highlights and defining moments?

Winning the Chief Finance Officer of the Year – Sustainability Award (2023) and the Financial Reporting Award (2023) from ACCA, Deloitte, and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
Becoming the First Runner-Up for the Africa CFO Awards (2022 & 2023) in the categories of Financial Services and MSMEs.
These accolades reinforced my commitment to sustainable finance, transparency, and ethical leadership.

How do you handle professional challenges?

I identify the challenge and its root cause before seeking a solution. I engage stakeholders through lobbying, stay calm in emotional situations, and rely on policy frameworks for solutions. If policies don’t work, I seek support from colleagues and my professional network. I then communicate solutions effectively without antagonizing any party.

What future goals are you excited about?

I aim to transition from CFO to CEO or become a consultant. I also want to mentor young professionals, helping them navigate the evolving finance industry.

Have you had any international or different cultural experiences in your career?

Yes, I worked in Rwanda as an audit assistant, auditor, and later accountant. This experience shaped my ethical approach and inspired me to pursue the accountancy profession.

What key skills should a newly qualified accountant develop on their path to becoming a CFO?

Strategic thinking, data analytics, robotics, and artificial intelligence to keep up with the changing finance landscape.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

I prioritize time management, ensuring I dedicate time to my family, workouts, and mental well-being while sticking to work schedules.

What are your interests outside of work?

Farming, especially raising cows.

How do you contribute to the development of others in your field?

I mentor young professionals, support CPD budgeting, and encourage aspiring accountants to join the profession.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to be a CFO?

Join a professional accounting body, stay updated on industry trends like data analytics and AI, and be a strategic thinker and innovator to stay competitive.

What’s your favourite quote or mantra?

“Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path… But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” – Sir Winston Churchill
