With a career spanning over a decade across financial services, telecoms, and healthcare, Dr Huruda exemplifies how finance can drive strategic and sustainable impact.

Currently serving as Head of Finance, HR and Acting Risk Management at Liberty Health, Dr Huruda plays a critical role in finance operations, corporate governance, board advisory, and integrated risk frameworks. She is also the Executive Director of the CFO Forum Mozambique, where she builds communities of practice and champions sustainable finance across the continent.

Her leadership journey includes roles at FNB Mozambique, Vodafone Mpesa, and Southern Sun Hotels, where she led financial transformation and risk oversight. She is passionate about creating inclusive, accountable finance functions and empowering others through professional development initiatives like the CFO Academy and Sustainability Week.

Her diverse background includes governance advisory, HR oversight, strategic finance, and cross-border collaboration, all rooted in a strong ethical and people-first approach.

What time do you usually wake up on weekends?

04:00 AM.

How do you spend the first hour of your day?

Meditating.

What sparked your interest in finance?

The desire to support every part of the business to understand finance, and therefore promote sustainable growth.

Can you share some career highlights and defining moments?

In 2023, I expanded my leadership to include HR and company secretarial functions, which resulted in a 98% improvement in employee retention. In 2024, I implemented a governance framework that enhanced compliance by 25% and increased board engagement by 40%.

How do you handle professional challenges?

By having dialogues. I strongly believe in the power of conversations.

What future goals are you excited about?

I aspire to become a Non-Executive Director in the next 2 years.

Have you had international or cross-cultural experiences?

Yes – I’ve worked with colleagues from various countries.

What key skills should a newly qualified accountant develop?

Strategic thinking, advanced financial management, leadership, and a sustainability mindset.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

I intentionally set aside a day to focus solely on my family and personal commitments.

What are your interests outside of work?

I lead over 300 women in my church, run a shoe and sneaker laundry, and am the Executive Director of the CFO Forum.

How do you contribute to the development of others?

Through the CFO Forum’s CFO Academy and Sustainability Week, we develop finance professionals and award the best sustainable startups.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to be a CFO?

Keep serving. Serving is the best way to be exalted.

Together, we go far.

What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your bio?

I have land, and I am growing lettuce in my machamba (small cultivated plot).

If you could have any superpower to help in your job, what would it be?

Empathy on behalf of others.

What’s your go-to strategy for staying productive?

Praying and fasting.

If you could relive one day in your career, what would it be and why?

The day I resigned from Vodafone Mpesa. I believe that there was more I could have grown into if I had been calmer.
